WWR PGR Fallen USAF Wife Loretta Sloop, Tim's mom GGNC

This one hits a little closer to home my friends. My very good friend and Fellow Rider, and for most of you, Sloop’s mom has been ill for awhile, and finally it got the best of Her. I met Loretta before, and such a nice lady. I called her mom and she had a great giggle. She was married to Richard J. Sloop , Tim’s dad.

Richard served in the Air Force during The year of 1952 for 4 years , and was an E-6 Tsgt. He was attached to the 78th Food Service Squadron at Hamilton AFB, Ca. Richard passed away in December of 1999.

We will Escort Loretta and her family to Golden Gate National Cemetery to be laid to rest with her Husband. From Spike

And Tim asked for an honor escort and an honor it was! God Bless you, my friend during this sad time of passing! Please remember and celebrate the good and long life lived.

Many of us have ridden with Tim in the past and this was personal to me as it was many others. Thank you for asking us to be there!

I decided to meet the arriving service at GGNC and offer a flag and salute. Rudy and Senior made it also, thank all that attended!! IIRC, we had 9 scoots and 2 cages.

Senior showed up and I got a pic, fitting, he's a retired Sr MSgt from USAF. If you look at the 1/2 staff flag on the hill.... it was just hanging... I've never seen that before. This isn't Chicago, but very seldom the wind is not blowing!

The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to help with Final Honors for SPC Sean M. Walsh US ARMY. Spc. Sean M. Walsh, 21, of San Jose, Calif., died Nov. 16, in Khowst province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained after encountering indirect fire. He was assigned to the 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, Pittsburg, Calif. ALR Dist 13 was also invited.

Another of our finest has passed and honors were due, and an honor it is. Thank you for asking us to be there.

Part 1, Wed 11/30/11:

I had the idea that he would arrive at the Chapel, and of course was wrong.

So I moved up to the office entrance with everyone else. Lining up and waiting. Buzz in front talking to a rider. The two folks to the right of the Honor Guard, were from Sean's AL Post 419.

I decided to meet the returning procession at Oak Hill.

We had a line of scoots at the gate to welcome the procession to Oak Hill.

One of our Vietnam vets passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor and an honor it was!

Sgtmaj is a 'Nam Vet and has deep respect for all that served, and volunteered to be our Ride Captain. He asked for folks to ride in honor and over three dozen folks attended, thanks to all for being there. We had many scoots and over one half dozen cages. ALR Dist 13 was again well represented.

I didn't make the escort ride so decided to wait at the entrance of offer a salute for our hero. The participants arrived in four groups and confused me, which is easy to do.

First was a series of cages, one was Cliff with his flags flying. Next came some motorcycles and I thought that was the group and followed them to the service location and Buzz waved me over and said, this isn't it... so back to the main entrance I went.

This is the procession! Got my chance to offer an honor salute.

With all the attendance, the service was literally surrounded with flags, great service! Thanks to the family for asking PGR to attend.

After the service, Doug/Sgtmaj was talking to the honor guard. He said the family did not know of their services and responded in less than 48 hours and that is real good! Thank you for your great show of respect!

PGR - Staff Sargent Wayne Keith Hepple Hollister

PGR was asked to escort a fallen veteran and it was a honor to be there, and thank you for asking!

The mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to form a Flag line and Escort Wayne Keith Heppler to his final resting place. Wayne was in the Air Force for 4 years and was a Staff Sargent.

This is unusual, as I did the same, 4 years USAF and made E-5 SSgt. You must not miss a promotion cycle to do this.

So I had to make this mission, and headed down 101 and what do I see south of Morgan Hill? Buzz and Mike J, so I Joined behind them.

The fog was over south Gilroy, the normal trough, and I thought it would be cool and planned on a sweater under my mesh jacket, but Buzz was in short sleeves and I thought, why not. It was not that bad, and got a lot warmer the east'er we went.

OK, not our meet place, but Panak stopped here and everyone else did too.

Another shot of the members, IIRC, we had 10 scoots with one 2-up and one cage for a total of 12. Great showing and thank you all for riding!!!

While we were at the stop, a car stopped and asked if we were the riders, and it was Wayne's daughter. She led us up to their home.

One of our finest has passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor, and an honor it was for all that attended. Thank you ALL for riding!

I excused myself from the ride, we had a great showing and I've been having sleeping problems, bunch of mosquito bites driving me nuts, but I had to go to make sure there was a good turnout, and there was.

I did not feel that my attention and focus were up for a large group ride and safety comes first. A small group would have been fine but thankfully, we did have a large group!

The police escort arrived, 8 bikes at this time, should be a safe run! Our RC James B (Thank you for doing this!!!! We need more like you!!!) and Buzz ere chatting with them, planning the ride, I'd guess.

Channel 7 had a reporter interviewing some of our regular riders.

Monday 07/18/2011

I knew this would be a large mission, so I went directly to GGNC. The San Bruno FD normally has a large ladder truck with flag out front and always looks nice.

Initially there were 3 scoots and one more showed up. The center one belongs to John and he was doing the organization for the reception at GGNC. He arranged for some flags to be at the grave site and the rest at the gate to welcome the family.

Each mission is different, no different today. It turns out there was a problem at GGNC and the scoots had to park in a different area than normal.

We were to lead the group with the shuttle van and show folks where to park.. John went ahead of the shuttle, and I followed it in front of the hearse, thought a 3x5 flag waving was a good touch.

The idea was that folks would see me turn off and by then John would be there waving folks to the parking area. Worked fine! Thank you John for all your work!

Cliff was there with his SUV and all his flags and they looked great! He was taking pics so I thought I would too....

The procession coming in was VERY impressive!! Many scoots and Police in the escort, and of course, I was watching instead of taking pictures, sorry!

We gave our welcome salute and took off with the shuttle to the parking area, My pic of the scoots coming in was blurred but you can see them lined up to park. There had to be 100 scoots.

The area where the service was to be. We had enough flags to completely circle the service. The weather was nice and a breeze to flutter our flags.

Very good service with full military honors and lots of brass showed up.

After the ceremony it was time to leave and GGNC wanted to move quick, there must have been another service coming. Slick John,center, I followed him back to San Jose.

There was a service before ours and they had cleared out just before Ssgt Amper IV arrived. The folks at GGNC were worried about an overlap and all the cars.

A great turnout and thanks to all that rode!!!! Special thanks to James B for being the Ride Captain on this mission, we need more like him, step up if you can!

PGR - 8th annual Gold Star Dad Tom Ballard BBQ for son Ken

Tom Ballard had his 8th annual BBQ for fallen son Ken, and it was an honor to attend!!!

He always reserves space in front of his home for PGR! Thank you!!!! Sgtmaj, Bunker and my scoot in front.

PGR - William Spalinger, Vietnam Vet, Sunnyvale Ca

Not many pics or comments, it was nice that Panak finished his welcome home and met us at the funeral home to welcome us with a lot of salutes!! Great on Ya All!!!

The Minister is Don, one of our often riders and a Black Sheep member. Great on Ya for doing this!

Got there a bit after 1030 and it turned out the departure time was going to be after 12, so we have some standing time....

Sgtmaj was the RC and did a great job! He, Ric M, and Slickjohn did a great job of keeping the group together, thank you!

Getting ready for the departure, some of us were asked to be pall bearers, and folks stepped forward.

The RC wanted to give us a post mission talk, trying to make sure all were OK with the mission.

More of the group, the gent on the left was a family member of the Joseph Paul Bugna family and I was at that mission 6/26, thank your for riding!

I have a few pics of that mission, but did not do a blog, if interested, I can send them... I was just getting settled in from a lot of traveling and met the mission at Oak Hill....

PGR - Gilroy Memorial Day 11 Parade

Gilroy Memorial Day Parade! And Mark Z entered us again. He did it last year and we had a much smaller group, but we won Best of Show for a patriotic entry!!!

This year we had over 50 scoots!!! Great showing!!! Thanks to all that rode!!!

Parades can be a pain in the left hand and danger to a clutch, and a lot of waiting, but IMHO, it is well worth it! I like the little kids! They really get into it and when I stop, I'll point at them with my right hand and hit my 139db air horn with my left!!!! GBG

We stage at the Gilroy train depot. Our spot was full so I had to go to the front of the line... hate being in front!

So sweet Ruby is in front... for now... They wanted us to stage out on the street and Mark asked me to make a circle back and look for folks that did not expect a change in plans... and I wound up where I like it! In back....

Well, we weren't at the staging site very long and I didn't get my break, BUT and there always is one, There was a gas station on the left and we had time and off I went! Figured I might as well get some pics.....

We had a small plane fly over, they came by twice and this was the better pic.

We're off and stopped, story of a parade, more stop that go. If you look at the pic full size, you will see a red car pulling out behind the guy in the road. They had a bunch, OK dozens, of nice cars that got to cut in line. So we wait...

So I get off my scoot and take a pic of folks behind me. I talked to the guy in front and he was a bit irritated, he was on the organizing committee and he did not even know about the cars! Well, he got off his scoot and made a trip over to a gas station, pause for the cause....

Another shot while off my scoot... Then I went over and shook a little boys hand. I love the kids at these things!

When we got started, I livened it up a tad, these folks must be new to parades, you don't just ride down the street, you blast your mufflers, I have stockers so very quiet.... BUT I have a 139db air horn!!!! BLAST BLAST!!! Pretty soon folks got the hint and everyone started making noise and waving!

The parade was well attended.

Whenever we stopped long enough for me stop power up, shoot, process and power off my camera, snap!

PGR - Cheer on Boy Scouts at GGNC Memorial Day preparation

In preparation for Memorial day, Boy Scouts put flags on all of the graves. Very nice of them and it looks fine.

PGR was asked to ride our scoots around GGNC and cheer on / wave / honk and encourage them and thank them for doing this.

John P won the RC straw and lives close to GGNC, IIRC. He is also a HOG member and his club showed up in force!!! Thanks to all that rode!

HOG arrived en mass! Looked real good! They rode their group around and we took another path. And it only sprinkled on us a bit!

PGR - Welcome Home TSgt Richard Reece SJC

Ricard's Father-in-law Don Brown, a fellow scoot rider, wanted a welcome home ride and so did we! Thank you for asking! Great day and great ride!

Welcome home!!! Hope the entire family has a very well deserved enjoyable time! Mark Z the Ride Captain and I are USAF also. SSGT - 63 - 67 for me.

PGR Member Mike Meltzer Celebration of Life

PGR was asked to stand in honor of one of our own. Mike was only 51 and passed due to illness much too early. God Bless family and friends during this time of passing.

Mike's friend, who he called a brother, Dave Scott made the request and was very happy to see us attend. He had an unusual request for a PGR Challenge Coin... I just happened to have one, and ashamed to say I took reimbursement, can't afford all these pins, etc. He was very happy to have the coin to present to Mikes widow Sue.

When I arrived, there were 3 scoots there and it turns out that none of us knew who had the one on the left. Roy's in front and Joe's in rear.

I tried to take a pic of a photo of Mike holding a PGR flag at an airport reception of a fallen hero.

Roy, Joe, Dave Scott, and the Cranky dude! Dave told many stories about Mike and apparently they both lived exciting lives! Dave was in the Green Berets.

We stayed a little over an hour and were about to leave, Roy in front and Joe. Thank you both for being there It only takes a few of us to make an impact!

PGR - WW II Navy Lt. Benny Lavon Smith

One of our greatest generation has passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor, and an honor it was! The family was very friendly and welcomed us warmly! Thank you for asking us and God Bless! Please celebrate the good life lived.

It was a great service and that he was loved was very evident. Healing Prayers for family and friends during this time of passing.

We had Sons and grand sons riding with us in the procession, great on 'um! They were very proud and loved our hero.

A shot of most of the scoots, a few came in later, I believe we had almost 2 dozen scoots. Great showing! Thanks to all that showed and stood the honor line.

I always say all missions are different, and today was no different. There was no RC (Ride Captain) assigned, and a few of us old timers were getting nervous. I did a little asking around about the mission and was about to join some of the old timers in setting it up.

Then came our Bay Area Ride Coordinator, Buzz! I walked over and said "you've been nominated as RC"! GBG And he of course said "I can handle that". So one of Ben's sons rode with us and updated Buzz. We also had grandsons riding with us. And of course got special riding positions in our escort.

I stepped out to take some pics of the flag lines for moving to the hearse, one side....

Other side. The Navy flag was held by family.

We had a fine escort to the cemetery, I was, along with family and others, behind the hearse and assume it was fine behind me also. Some of our riders took intersections, Slick John was one and family and friends helped also.

When we arrived and started to form the flag line, one of the two Navy troops there came up to me and said, "I need your help!" There was only two and they had to fold the flag. The Chief said he needed a bugler, and I blinked... kind of an unusual request. Well it turns out that it's an electronic one, and you put it to your lips and push a button... I said just a minute and went to the RC.

Yup, Buzz played taps! Great on Ya! Never missed a note! I made sure and gave him a big congrats! I almost broke my rule and took a pic of him, but I was too visible to the service. Pics at a service is a no-no to me. Private time.

Again, a great service and a big loving family was in attendance, and their love was most evident! Sincerely, it was a great honor to attend.

PGR was asked to ride in honor, and an honor it was. Our Ride Captain Mark Z did an outstanding job as usual and thank you for stepping up. The family wanted a private service so we were to do the escort up to GGNC and into the Chapel. End of mission and asked to depart quietly. God Bless family and friends during this time of passing.

I knew it would be a very large complex mission and I'm getting to old for them so I met the mission at San Bruno GGNC.

Every overpass on the way up 280 had at least one fire engine and most had multiple. Thank you all for your time to honor our fallen hero. There was also a large police escort and it always looks great and makes the mission much safer.

I was quite surprised when I arrived at GGNC, cages and scoots everywhere!

The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to form a Flag line and Escort Ruben Trujillo to his Final resting place. Mr. Trujillo was in the Army during WWII and was a Member and the past Post Commander at Post 419. He was also the Past Commander of Dist 13. He was 84 or 85 yrs young.

Staging: We will stage at Lima Family Mortuary in Santa Clara Ca. at 1130hrs. (11:30am) Thursday April 14th, 2011 for briefing and will form a Flag line as he is Escorted to the Coach.

We will then Escort Mr. Trujillo to his Final resting place at Mission City Memorial Park. Where we will Form a Flag line and give him the Honor he has earned.

RC: TBD Need someone from the ALR to do the Honors. End PGR post.

And Mike A was the man to step forward and thank you my friend! Mike is a District 13 American Legion Rider as were four others attending and our friends Al R, and Craig. We had seven folks attend, six scoots and a cage.

Nice group and it was an honor to stand for our fallen veteran and past District 13 / Post 419 commander.

We were lining up for the escort and Al R was in front with his large flags. Mike A rode with him and showed the way. When it was time to leave there were two cages behind the hearse and I followed with my large flag,, and the rest of the scoots. John R was last performing road guard responsibilities.

One of our finest has passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor. And an honor it was and thanks to the Arena family for the request. Lt Arena was a family member of a personal friend of Ride Captain Buzz B.

I was running a few minutes late and a flag line was already in place. I took a shot of the scoots and joined the group.

Rich M on the right and Slickjohn in the rear giving me a wave. The rider on the left came in from Modesto, rode over the pass in mid 30 temps and did mention, it was a cold ride! I think we've all been there before. We had 11 members and 10 scoots. Nice showing and thanks for those that attended.

One of our finest has fallen and the Riders were asked to ride in honor. This was a WWR mission and as in all cases, all who wish to honor the fallen are invited. Thanks to the family for asking us to be there.

I was running late and went to the airport awaiting the others to arrive. They did and kept on coming, I have to guess it was around 75 scoots, and a lot of Police and Fire team support. Great on 'um!

The scoots were many and three rows wide! FINE showing for the family!

As we left, the escort was very long, I'll guess almost a mile.... Livermore has always had a great show of respect for our funeral processions, and today was no exception! Nothing but honor, cars pulled over in respect, and many intersections were not even blocked, no one would pull into our line.....

Arriving at Callaghans Mortuary , I parked along the curb and walked up for the honor line.

The police and fire attendance was fantastic, as always! Great on Livermore for their honor to our fallen.

The large flag hanging from a fire ladder is always a sight to behold. Very nice!

Spike said the family was very appreciative of all the support! God Bless them during this sad time of passing and may The Good Lord Comfort them during this time of loss.

PGR was invited to attend a Celebration of Life and it was an honor to be there! Thanks to the Gallardo family for the invite.

We formed a line outside the service. Eight members, 2 2-ups, and Ed, fourth one from the left, was our RC. It was his second mission and he did a fine job. We had two first time riders and I donated the Mission Accomplished pins off my vest to thank them for being here.

I believe the two new members are on the end of the lines, in front of you. Mike "Air" was second in on the left and Bunker was second in from the right. Ed and his wife were in front of each line.

As I'm apt to say, they are all different, my record still holds! Ed was a family friend and we were invited inside to form a background flag line for the group. I don't normally go inside, but today seemed special.

Little did I know it really was a celebration of life and one of the longest services I've attended and we were standing for about two hours. Think we all needed to stretch our legs afterwards! I came home and got 14 miles in on my cranky machine. Felt good!

I managed to get my camera out for a final shot of the group headed back to the scoots. Nice showing for a very nice service. Bob was very loved and it showed.

He is now in God's Loving Arms and the entire group knew it.

Many songs and words of thanks and memories. It was a very special mission and indeed a great honor to be there!

One of our greatest generation passed and he asked for a PGR mission and eight honored members attended. Thank all that stood.

Jose's daughter is a Blue Star Mom and that made this mission even more special. Their support PGR and it is very much appreciated, and a two way street!

We met at our staging place across the street, The Planet. Buzz and Anita had just pulled in their scoot in front. Slick with his back to us, Glenn on the right and Anthony on the left.

PGR - USMC John Henry Luth Memorial Service

UPDATE* A note I received from Chappi 03/06:

"Cranky, It meant a world to me and the family that we (Patriots) could be there. The family were taken back by all of our support and could not thank us enough. Mrs. Luth said, "With dear friends like you, you have made a sad time easier." As I escorted Denise (Daughter) from her vehicle through our flag line and as tears rolled down her face, I could only hear her continuously say "Oh my God.""

A long time member of AL Post 419 passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor by the family as communicated through Chappi, one of our own, for a memorial service. It was an honor to be there for family, friends and our friend Chappi.

We were to stage at our normal place so everyone would be familiar with where to go, but after being on a few, and Post 419 was closer, I went direct a bit early.

When I arrived, Panak and wife Maryanne, J.D. and dog were already there. Panak was ARC on the mission, to coordinate the group arrival.

Well, here they come!

And they just keep on coming! I was directing traffic, and trying to get some shots...

Robert's bike on the right, he has the same scoot as I do, very pretty!!! GBG (Great Big Grin) I think that's Chrome Cowboy behind him, his scoot is solid chrome.

I'm guessing we had over 30 scoots....

All missions are different, and no exception today. The service needed a flag for our hero and Cliff was nice enough to donate one. Nacho and Panak volunteered to fill out the 21 gun salute firing squad. Thank you all for assisting the service!

I said they are all different, I don't know why I was an hour off schedule, but I was and arrived in the middle of the service. Greeted all and then shot some pics.

We had the honor of the POW/MIA Vet for being there, and no pun, he is a Vet!

We were to meet and go the Skylawn Memorial Park and I decided to go direct and save an hour. There were some that staged along 92 under 280, I saw them but no way for me to get there, so I went direct.

Real nice day for an honor mission and the fog was burning off.

Well they finally came in and I was set up to take some pics.. They really confused me as they took a wrong turn and came in the back way, I thought I was in the wrong place, but then, I knew better as I've been here before.

USA Pfc. Conrado D. Javier Jr was to arrive at the Monterey airport on Tuesday. It was a very cold am, down in the 30s, but a lot of hardy souls showed up! Fine showing for our hero! I believe we had about two dozen attendees.

An American Hero has fallen and PGR was asked to provide an honor escort. We staged at Moffett Field for the arrival home and escort to the funeral home.

Bill (Bunker) Roller got the RC straw, and as Al (Maddog) Cook works there (our ALR District 13 president and VP), he was very helpful with the logistics.

We had a lot of cages today, it was cool and the weather had been... not nice...

Quite a few hardy souls made the run! Thank all that attended!!!

My Sweet Ruby on the rear left with flag flying. Well... this is Moffett and a delay is not out of the question. So the arival time went from 1210 to 1315 and Maddog moved us to a more comfortable waiting place.

Lap of luxury! The Officers Club! I don't think I've had a nice place to wait very often!

Well, 1315 was coming up and I asked Maddog what the schedule was... another delay 'til 1515. Moffett delays are well known, but normally they are for welcome homes as those troops have low priority on transportation, I thought this mission would be exempt, but I guess not. Waiting for an extended time would have put me into riding at night and I just don't do that, it's a vision thing, sigh. So I packed up and went home early.

I arrived late to the service and it was in process. It was well attended and the police escort did a GREAT job as always, and I / we thank them very much!

The weather started out decent and I thought we'd have a fair day. It was until after south of Gilroy, from then on we had fog and rain. Not too bad, all I asked the Good Lord for was that the plane would not have problems landing, and it didn't.

I missed the staging and went direct to the airport and it was a tad bit user unfriendly to a new comer. As I was wandering around, I asked a policeman for directions and as he was giving them in came the main group, and I said - I just found the way, and off we went.

Thanks to Mark Z RC and Anthony S ARC for another excellent job done on this mission! We need more like you!

After over an hour+ on the road the first stop was the rest room and it was inside a hanger, and might I add, a very nice one!

The first one was a bit light in attendance and Rich B stepped up and took charge and did a fine job!

But there does seem to be a theme to these events... the weather! No rain, but I got fogged to death. Very wet, but I've come to expect it.

A veteran passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor and an honor it was, thank you!

Mark Z drew the RC straw and thank you my friend for what you do! We had 7 at the church, one was a family member that wanted to ride sweep with us / me. It was a pleasure and you did a fine job, and that turned out be a bit more than we thought.

Normally we have a few cars in the procession, and we don't normally escort all... I'd guess this one had close to 50. And we had Capitol Exp to navigate. Got 'er done in fine style!

I like to take pics of the scoots and riders as, well, that's all I can shoot, the service is of limits.

It's a good thing that I did! If you look at this scoot, the copper colored center pole came off about 4 miles East of Casa De Fruita. One of the riders that joined us at Gilroy, Tom, stopped to pick it up. As sweep, we have instructions passed out, if you stop for any reason during the mission, show a thumbs up or down... he did neither so I stopped. All was fine and we eventually caught up with the escort.

A Marine has passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor, and an honor it was! Buzz B. stepped up to be RC and thank you for doing this complex mission.

We arrived at our meet point at the airport and moved to the terminal to await the family. The best I can estimate is around three dozen PGR showed up, great on Ya! And thank you!

Saturday started out with a chance of rain, but thank the Good Lord, the weather at GGNC was fine, a bit blustery, but dry.

I thought I'd be all by myself going direct to GGNC but it turned out, I was far from alone!

I found a new member already there. We chatted a bit and then others arrived...

Tom from the Tom and Nancy E team showed up with Dianne L behind him. Nancy was riding with Lynn T in her hummer from the service.

Then a group came in that had lunch a short distance away, I had my ever present PB+J plus apple for lunch. Rich M, James and wife B, and others, getting ready for the arrival.

We had a nice ladder fire engine, looking for a place to set up.

This is always a worthy pic. Unable to even guess as to the number of cages and scoots. We had good weather because of all the folks like Rich B arrived by car. He said if he would've ridden his scoot, all heck would have happened! Glad it turned out to be a fine day for the family and friends paying their last respects!

It was a very successful service with full honors and many attendees. God Bless those left behind and Asking for the Best! Celebrate the short life lived.

A fallen Vet's family from Oregon asked PGR for honors at SJNC. It was a bit chilly but good run over. I've always said they are all different, no change.

When I arrived the RC Chromecowboy - David Tucker asked me if I'd done RC work and I said yes. He and another rider proved the first law of physics once again, no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time, sigh. He laid his bike down and had a bit of damage to it and his left thumb. I said, let's wait until we have a group and decide how to handle this. I just hate to be in front, but wanted him to know it would be taken care of, and it was a simple run.

One of the Sacto RC's showed up and took the mission, great on him!!! David was feeling a bit of pain and headed for home and two of his friends escorted him and glad they did. Asking the Good Lord for all to be fixed and quick for Chromecowboy!

We staged and did a nice slow ride out the the cemetery to wait for the family. Here we are at the staging and a VERY nice line of scoots!

Thanks to all that rode!! Almost all the riders were American Legion Riders, two were not. I'm ALR Dist 13, saw one 28 and the rest, IIRC were post 83.

IIRC we had 15 scoots and one cage.

PGR was asked to ride an honor mission and it was a successful one. The weather was great, the turnout was great and the family was glad to see us there and all the flags. God Bless and Healing Prayers for those left behind during this time of passing.

So I was worried about the turnout and made sure to be there. Well my fears were unfounded.

Best I could do a final count at the service was around 20 scoots and 2 cages.

No one stepped up for the Ride Captain position so Rich M took over. Thank you my friend for what you do and you do it great! It was special as Rich is a Marine also.

Bob (Wiserguy) Dalton headed this way, I know his brother Dan, and met their sister on a ride. Dan (Garlic Indian) and I both worked and retired from IBM. Bob is a Asst. State Captain, and thank you for what you do!

No burial, just an escort back to the home for a reception. An uneventful trip, as much so as can be on 880.

While there we had some pictures taken of the group and family, and I thank them for taking a picture with us!

Six scoots and riders arrived at the mortuary for escort to the services. Rich B. (eastbay123) was RC and Bill R (Bunker) was Asst. RC. He will lead the escort to Dixon tomorrow. Have a safe trip!

One of our Viet Nam Vets and a fellow scoot rider passed and PGR was asked to ride in honor.

Bill (Bunker) Roller, my ALR District 13 President and a fellow Star rider, like Dale, was the RC on this mission. He did his normal great job and thank you for doing this! It was an honor to ride for Dale's service.

The day didn't start out too bad, until about 2 miles from our stage point and rain happened. Oh well....

PGR - WWII US Army Sergeant Willie Rodrigues

One of our finest has passed and PGR was asked to honor Willie with an escort. He was a good friend and neighbor of one of our fellow PGR and ALR District 13 riders, John (Slickjohn) Rodrigues and it was an honor to ride with him on his friends service. We had 9 scoots, 1 cage and 12 folks show up. Of the 12 we had a great showing of ALR District 13 folks, 8 were there. Great on Ya!!!

Panak did his normal great RC work and is always appreciated. The weather was a bit drizzly, but not bad. We did get an escort from the church back to the cemetery so all went smooth, but then the ride to the church did too, great mission!

Samuel Attanasio born on April 26, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to Angelo Attanasio and Rose Serrator passed away on Sunday October 3, 2010 at his family home surrounded by family and friends.

Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Lou Attanasio. He is survived by his daughters; Roslyn Attanasio and Tina Aruta; grandchildren, Jay Aruta, Kristi Snodgrass, and Samantha Baker; niece Dawn Clarkson; son in law Dan Aruta; and caregiver-close
friend Greg Baker. Samuel's sisters and brothers are Ida Arena, Mary Oliver, Zina Tranisi, Tony and Angelo Attanasio. He served in the Army and was in the Sheet Metal Union for most of his life.

A visitation will be held at Darling Fischer, Chapel of the hills. 615 N. Santa Cruz Avenue, Los Gatos, CA on Thursday October 7, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. and a vigil at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 1200 Redmond Avenue, San Jose, CA 95120.

Graveside services to follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos-Almaden Road, San Jose, CA. Reception to follow. Donations are acceptable to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America.

My good friend Panak was ride captain, and another good friend Don Newton arranged for honor services based on the above info, and I thank both of you for your efforts!

The family hired an escort service that did a great job of taking us from the church to the final service.

I couldn't get to the escort part of the mission to ride with Sam to the church, so I went directly to the church.

I got to see some faces that I've not seen in a long time and it was great! Thanks to those that put this together! And the best part was, I believe no missions got shorted, as I don't think there were any!

Now here's Trouble! That's his 'nic, Glenn P and an old friend, one of the first I met in PGR. I started riding PGR missions in spring '06. Glenn started at the very beginning of PGR fall of '05. We all rode far and wide, there weren't many of us and if a few showed up, it was a successful mission, we got 'er done!

I went direct to the funeral home and Craig R the ride captain said go back to staging, and there were many bikes there, the mission was huge and had to be split up. A lot of caring folks were here to salute our hero.

Got there in time to follow to Gates of Heaven. We staged and waited for our fallen hero to arrive.

I only shot a few pics, the Hummer on the right is our Lynn T. and had snacks and water. Thank you for what you do!

I will not take pics of any service, but this was before anyone arrived.

This is a left face from the last pic and one line of bikes. I think we had a few leave just due to the size of the mission.

Reid Hillview days last year was a MUCH bigger to do... see above. Thought I'd go out and say Hi to Dave.... and the girls... GBG It's fun and great face time for us to be seen!

A nice event and the weather was very nice this year, unlike last that was a cooker!

Well, when I arrived, poor Dave... almost all alone, sigh + GBG I asked him where to park, last year we had a grunch of bikes and had our own spot!

I parked by these old cars until I talked to Dave, they went went down the runway later when leaving with their "sirens", yes, blaring loud! When I went by the second one over, it has the low rider suspension, I gave him a sample of a Stebel 139 db air horn! Very nice cars!

PGR - Gilroy Memorial Day Parade '10

-Update- I learned from RC Mark Z PGR won Best of Show!!! For a non float entry!!!!!!

Mark Zappa signed PGR up to ride in Gilroy's Memorial Day Parade and not normally a problem, but we didn't hear about it until Memorial Day weekend! Doug got the message from Mark out to his distribution list and I made contact. I was worried with such little notice and such a busy weekend he'd be "lonely"!!! GBG

This short notice was on top of the PGR web site being down for 10 days, so communication was extremely hampered.

He has worked with Gilroy on this parade for years and decided that THIS year, he wanted to ride in it, so off I went to Gilroy, I felt he needed another 3x5 flying with him.

I had a ride planed with ALR District 13, my riding club, but felt more the need to help Mark out, we have a great bunch of folks and I knew they would be fine. Found out later when I called Slick John that we had 9 folks show up for ALR. Great on ya all!!!

Well, not to worry, we had 11 scoots (2 first time riders), IIRC there were 3 2-ups, and a cage. As in all parades, it was more stop than go, left hand exercise, and with my heavy duty clutch, well, I got some new muscles... AND it was very warm!

We made it to Xmas Tree Park and boy was it warm! That's a Suzuki Boulevard to my right and a Venture in front of it, they are unusual looking bikes, I'll stick with my sweet Ruby on the left.

I called some of my ALR group to see what the status was after I got back, finally got Slick John and he said folks left Oak Hill and went for food, so I got on my cranky machine and got a 15+ mile crank in, and I needed the exercise!

If you meet Slick, you hafta ask him how he got his 'nic, something about entertaining tourists in SF, on the crookedest street in the world... and dumping his Harley and the crankcase emptying down the street..... as all the tourists were snapping pics and Slick was ducking... it was later on the news..... GBG

Year 2 of the PGR riding around GGNC making noise and flying our 3x5's while the Boy Scouts place flags on all the graves! The Boy Scouts LOVED it! So did we!! Lots of waving, ^5's and general great will!!! Thank you all for what you do! Thanks to all that rode for this honor! We had 10 scoots, with 3 2-ups and our Debbi and Steve truck and they had many flags flying!! Thank you!

We had 7 ALR District 13 riders, Mike and Suzy A., Gary and Sandy R., Don N. RC for the event, Slick John and the Cranky dude!! Almost 1/2 of the group! Thank you for being there!

Don Newton has been the organizer for both! Thank you! The mission was on Saturday 05/29/10 and the 2500 Boy Scouts placed > 112K flags for our fallen heroes.

Did you know for us eye challenged folks... that with a quick browse, a 9 looks like a 3.... Here I sit in 05/23..... aaaallllllllllll alone... sigh. Called daughter and said check my messages for something on the 23 with GGNC.... she said nada, but there's one for the 29th..... %&!(#%&#_($&%! One of our 'Nam vets passed on and PGR was asked to attend the service. On short notice we had 5 scoots and a cage. Other than PGR we had folks from POW/MIA, AL, ALR and VVA. Thank you all for riding!

In the mission notice it was mentioned, "Robert served in the "Brown Navy" in Nam. He was very proud of his military service and his service to his country".

I learned from member conversations that Brown Navy meant the river patrols, the swift boats. That had to be a dangerous mission. God Bless and thank you for your service!

At this point, the Chaplin was ushering the last of the service attendees.

The honor guard arrived and they took over the folding of the flag. That's Bob J's bike in the front. Nice looking scoot, and we had many flags flying, and looked very nice!

WWR invited PGR and all who ride in honor to ride for Msgt Trentadue, and it was an honor to be there. He served in US Army from '45 - '71, thank you for your service and RIP. Healing Prayers for family and friends during this time of passing.

The weather was not at it's best and we got some sprinkles but not too bad. Arriving at Callaghan Mortuary in Livermore were four hearty riding souls, led by RC Spike. We had a couple cages too. Thank you for riding!
